We are thrilled to share some wonderful news. During the 2015 Georgia Legislative Session a state budget line item passed to setup a medical foods assistance program! This means Georgia patients with PKU or other Inherited Metabolic Disorder (IMD) who are in financial need, regardless of age will soon be able apply for assistance with medical foods (specialized formula), modified low-protein foods, and nutraceuticals! This new Georgia Public Health Program will be managed by the Emory Metabolic Genetics Nutrition Program. (Please stay in touch with your metabolic dietician/doctors regarding any immediate needs.)
Georgia PKU Connect is grateful to Representative Richard Smith, Representative Butch Parrish, and Representative Penny Houston for their legislative leadership in working to resolve Georgia’s gap in IMD treatment coverage. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Rani H. Singh, PhD, RD, LD and the Emory Metabolic Nutrition Team for their work to advocate for access to treatment on behalf of patients and families.
